You will only be able to join if that person is on your friends list or by invite. For transparency, multiplayer is tested with 4 trees, but it should support up to 250. There is no built-in voice chat. It is recommended that Discord or Steam chat be used. In short, you open it and leave it running. Occasionally glimpse at the screen. Fiddle with the settings a few times. Then you might feel the urge to get another achievement or two, you end up in a multiplayer gathering, start running around and shaking your leaves. Maybe exchange a couple of awkward words. This was a good fit during lock-down for when you just wanted to pleasantly waste some time and get a small, funny and, perhaps insignificant but still very real, feeling of belonging. This game changed my life, some games teach lessons of letting go, or moving on, but this one teaches you to stay where you are, take a moment and let time go. you can let time pass and relax. you can learn the true meaning of being a tree. this game has allowed me to understand just how much of the world revolves around trees, the masters of our existence, not because it provides us homes.
