About Star Wars Battleground:
I played quite a bit more than what my Steam hours are showing as I was mostly on the Expanded Fronts mod and finished all the campaigns that way. It feels pretty good to come back to a childhood classic after nearly 20 years. Is it an old clunky game? Sure. Is it an AOE II clone? Yup. Is it still fun? As long as you’re tempering your expectations, yes! I was a bit disappointed at how bare-bones the storytelling is with the “cutscenes” having no music, atmosphere or barely any narration but the scenarios themselves are pretty fun and varied. If you add the Expanded Fronts mod on top, which is fantastic, there’s a lot of graphical improvements, factions and maps to enjoy. I’m glad I gave this old girl one final ride. This is a really excellent game. It was created using Age of Empires and Star Wars Merged. There are 8 Civilizations to choose from: Gungans, Confederacy, Republic, Empire, Wookies, Trade Federation, Royal Naboo, Rebels. You can fly using units to fly through outer space. You can also fly over water and land. You can still get a dock and build ships for swimming. The game kind of reminds me of StarCraft but I like it more. Its a lot more complicated than StarCraft. There are more Civilizations, where StarCraft only has 3. I used to play this game when I was young and there were many custom scenarios to play over the internet with friends. You would log into the Microsoft gaming Zone and play with random strangers over the internet. It was a lot of fun. There was also a rating system so you could prove your worth.
