About Palm Ridge Beta:
I got it for the aesthetic but stayed for the music and lore. At an asking price of $3.99, it’s worth every penny. After spending even more time with this game, I can add 4 more points to this review: This game is great for a casual gamer but it also has depth for folks that want more out of their investment. If you enjoy achievements, this game has a bit of interesting depth that can require adjusting playing styles. This can keep the game interesting, prolonging playability. For the actual driving game play, the game feels good. Its not quite as fluid as some other throwback driving simulator like “80’s Overdrive” – PalmRide is a bit snappier, simulating an 8-bit driver, without being as painful as an actual 8-bit driver. Incoming traffic is on the wrong side of the road. The game seems to have been created by devs that drive on the wrong (left) side of the road. Not a deal breaker but it feels weird for people that drive on the right side of the road. (so this game must take place in Miami, England. I played all 5 game “modes”, and they’re all exactly the same, just a mildly different graphics setting and the final mode just has leaderboards. Your car slides way too much on curves, you can only hold 3 shields, bullets have an autofire so the slightest longpress will drain all your ammo, theres way too much traffic on the road, the controller layout isn’t good and you can’t rebind anything. Props to the students who turned thier project into a reality, but after just 5 minutes you’ve seen everything the game has to offer.
