Juggle movement and firing and plan room entrances to avoid getting swarmed. It’s a fun game, pretty short at about 3 hours, but the cool concept and weird mechanics are interesting make the game genuinely memorable. Saw this being recommended via YouTube. Videos showed developer’s notes on the game design. Game itself didn’t disappoint. It was tough but not unfair. The story then unfolds mostly through notes and flashbacks as you uncover the secrets of the castle and its occupants, you solve puzzle and get chased by some horrific monsters. The story itself is more in the background and to understand what is happening you need to pay attention to the notes, flashbacks and environment. Graphics are perfectly fitting for a game that came out in 2010 plus you spend most of the game in darkness anyway, really it’s the style and tone that elevates this game. Really my only gripe is that some rooms are difficult to navigate due to the fact they all look the same and also the fact you’re pretty much in constant darkness. Whilst I may prefer Soma’s style of horror and the story of that game Amnesia really is the swansong of Frictional Games and it is a crying shame the sequels haven’t come close to the greatness of the original. Easily a top ten horror game and one all horror fans should experience.
